Sapphire (Al2O3 monocrystalline) has a hardness (10 diamond, 9 sapphire) and high temperature (2030C) due to its single crystal structure. Sapphire's acid-base resistance and chemical corrosion, including hydrochloric acid (HF). These unique features are commonly used in most high temperature test applications:
Transparent sapphire tubes allow real-time observation of the decomposition of geological samples at high temperatures
Single crystal sapphire tubes are resistant to high temperatures, higher temperatures than quartz glass tubes, higher in strength and higher pressure than quartz glass tubes
Sapphire at high temperatures is also an inert state, composed of pure Al2O3 powder, does not contain Na, K and other active metal ions, high temperatures above 1000 degrees will not be like quartz glass separated out of the gaseous conductive Na, K ions. Isotope elements do not react to sapphires. The isotopes isolated from geological samples are fully protected from contamination.
